Using the Helmets to Hardhats Discussion Board
Using the Forums
By Ted Wadsworth, Helmets to Hardhats Marketing Coordinator
We are all experts at something, but few are expert at everything. That's what makes
discussion boards such a valuable tool. Through discussion boards, such as the Veteran Discussion
Board on
www.helmetstohardhats.com, we are able to learn from
the experience of others.
Discussion Boards - sometimes called message boards or discussion forums - are places that
enable users to ask questions, find answers, and share their thoughts and expertise with others.
The Helmets to Hardhats discussion board is designed for veterans who are interested in careers in
the building and construction industry.
To access the
Helmets
to Hardhats Discussion Board, you must login to the Helmets to Hardhats website. If you are not
already a member, simply click on the
Create Account button and follow
the instructions. It only takes a few minutes.
Once you're logged in, place your mouse over the "Info Center" tab until a dropdown menu
appears. Click on the
Discussion
Board link at the bottom of the dropdown menu. There, you're in!
On the left side of the page, you'll see a list of topics being discussed in the "Forum /
Category" column. Select a topic you would like to learn more about by clicking on the topic's
link.
On the left is a column called "Threads." Threads are specific postings written by others
about that Topic. To the right you can see who posted the thread, how many people viewed it, how
many people replied to it and when the last posting occurred. Clink on the thread you would like to
read.
You can now see the full discussion that is taking place on that topic. If you would like to
join in on the discussion, click the "reply" link on the right.
Now you are ready to post. Type your response, question, comment or observation in the
message window. When you are done, you can see how your message will appear when posted by clicking
the "Preview" tab. When you are satisfied with your message, page down to the "Tags" box. Enter one
or more words that describe the subject of your message in the Tags box. This will allow people to
find your message by searching by keyword. Once you are done, click "Post Message." Your message
will be added to the discussion for others to read and respond to. That's it!
There are other functions you may want to use. Navigate around the board until you become
comfortable with it. Feel free to join conversations. The more users who participate, the more
valuable a resource the Veteran Discussion Board becomes.
