Mr. Roberts is a native of Kentucky. Upon graduation from Greenup County High School in
1990, Mr. Roberts joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy he served on the USS
George Washington CVN-73 as a Hull Technician Second Class.
Following the fulfillment of his contractual obligation to the Navy, Mr. Roberts began his civilian career as a journeyman sheet metal worker. During his time as a sheet metal worker Mr. Roberts enlisted into the Pennsylvania Army National Guard where he served in the infantry. Subsequently, Mr. Roberts joined the Local 19 Sheet Metal Workers union in Philadelphia, PA.
He has been foreman of multiple job sites and has worked with the tools for thirteen years. In the course of this time Mr. Roberts was activated with Army National Guard unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and deployed to Kosovo from March 2003 – March 2004 as squad leader of an infantry platoon.
Mr. Roberts witnessed first hand the difficulty of being deployed and the continued pressures of maintaining your life back in the states. He watched as several men in his platoon received letters from the states that their employer either filled or phased out their position. He saw the uncertainty in their faces of what was awaiting them upon their return.
Mr. Roberts was one of the fortunate ones who returned to their position with the same salary and benefits as it were prior to his deployment. Shortly after his return, Mr. Roberts began his career with Helmets to Hardhats as the Program Director for the Pennsylvania Initiative. This state program was established to enhance the National Helmets to Hardhats program. He was ultimately promoted to the position of Executive Director of the Helmets to Hardhats program.
Mr. Roberts is married and has three children.
