Dudley Light
National Director, Carpenters
Dudley Light is a native Texan. Upon graduation from Irving High School he joined the
UBC local 198 as a first period apprentice carpenter. Upon completing 4 years of
apprenticeship training, he was recruited to return to the program as an instructor.
He received his teaching certification from Texas A&M University in 1975 and began as an
instructor in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Light has worked as a construction superintendent for 18
years while also teaching at the North Texas Carpenters and Millwrights program as the lead
instructor. In 1992 Mr. Light accepted a position as a technical coordinator for the
International office of the UBC and in 1996 became the Executive Director for the Carpenters
International Training Fund.
He has served on the Apprenticeship Advisory Committee to Building and Construction Trades as
well as to the US Secretary of Labor and traveled abroad on issues related to training in the
construction industry. He has also been involved with the USDOL Job Corp program and was the
CFO and Executive Secretary to the UBC National Job Corps Training Fund. Due to his
extensive experience with training related issues and his knowledge of the Apprenticeship systems
in North America, he was asked to serve as the National Director for the Helmets to Hardhats
Program for the Carpenters International Union.
Mr. Light currently lives in Ovilla, Texas with his wife and three grandchildren
